40KM EXPEDITION (13-14.03.2008)

After came back form 4 days 3 nights LTC6(Leadership Training Course), I continued went to a 2 days 1 night's 40km expedition in the next day. It's really a big challenge for me and my body.

This expedition has given me unforgettable memories; I’d say it has been quite an unforgettable experience throughout my years as a scout. On our expedition of 40 kilometers, we experience more than one can imagined. As we trudge along the stretch of road, we walked, we laughed, and most importantly we gained more than we bargained for in these two days one night expedition.

Halfway through our expedition, some of our teammates fell sick. Being a team, we would not leave anyone behind and hence, we were delayed upon reaching our destination. Although I was the lone girl, I braved my way through it all. I did not want to let my teammates down, nor do I want to burden them, hence, I preserved. They in turn, treated me as an equal and did not belittle me in anyway. I did my fair share just as any boy would in the team. It seems like in their mind, they see me as a guy. >.<” As we continued our expedition, we get tired. When tired, we would rest at the side of the road to catch our breath.

At night, the weather was cold and breezy, there was fewer cars on the road and was not as bustling as there are in the morning. The night skies were filled with stars and this beautiful sight made us forget how tired we were. Being the city kids we are, the star-filled skies awed us and took our breath away. As we walked along the roads, we saw fireflies. It has been awhile since I saw fireflies. They made me feel warm inside as memories of my childhood unfolds in my head.

There were times when we were exhausted to our very bones, we were tempted to hitch a ride or get on board a bus. Even so, we dug our hells and stood our ground, a determined pack. We decided not to let our tiredness take control our thoughts and actions.

Lastly, I would like to thank all those who helped us in one way or another during our expedition, from beginning, to the end. For examples, the kind villagers of Kampung Rayu who treated us like a family member and let stay for the night under their roofs tough they know us not. I would like to thank our coach, Lee Long who cared for us in his own way too. And of course, last but not least, I want to thank my teammates. As only of them did I gain this unforgettable experience that has been written beautifully as a chapter in my life’s story. ^^
